Checkerboard Ltd. Teams Up with Famous Calligrapher, Maria Thomas to Design Custom Wedding Invitations Called Folios
For each Folios wedding invitation order, Maria Thomas, herself, will hand-letter the names of the bride and groom, making the couple's stationery a one-of-a-kind piece of art. Folios is now available in select stationery stores across the U.S. and images are available at www.checkernet.com/folios

In addition to weddings, the Folios invitations can also be used for other formal occasions, such as retirement parties, anniversaries, etc. Maria Thomas uses antique 19th century pens and hand-made walnut inks to create her Spencerianesque calligraphy, but with a playful 21st century style all her own. Thomas is known for her distinctive calligraphic art, in which thick pen strokes play off thin lines and delicate shading.
"For more than a decade, my own stationery line has been, and continues to be, a success," said Maria Thomas. "I was looking for a way to share my art with a broader audience, without loosing the intimate feel of our small business. Folios will be printed on a specially made paper which is designed and manufactured for Checkerboard. Made from two thick sheets laminated together, this paper provides a consistent creamy-luster Sheffield finish on both sides that's unmatched as a surface for fine invitations. With Folios, Checkerboard has also taken die-cutting to a new level of sophistication. Each of the Folios invitations and envelopes are intricately die-cut to create soft edges and unique designs that compliment Thomas' artwork. Folios invitations range in price from $7.75 to $10.50 per invitation (based on a quantity of one hundred.)
