They usually loosen up the audience and provide you a way to transition into your more sentimental words.

Still, no matter how funny your speech may be, you do need to add that element of sentimental. Whether it is telling the bride and groom how much you care about them or just wishing them well, make sure that your wedding speech is more than just one joke after another, but a way to honor the bride and groom.
